HEALDSBURG GREYHOUND ATHLETIC BOOSTER WORKING CLUB HISTORY
The Greyhound Booster Club was incorporated on October 20, 1975 to support the athletic endeavors of the Healdsburg High School Athletics and the student athletes who participated in these sports due to a decline of revenue anticipated by Proposition 13.
The first Booster President was Joe Brandt. The original Board of Directors were: Dave Stine, Al Greco, Tony Romelli, Harry Tappin, Robert Harrington, Sue Alves-Durler, and Dorothy Studer.
Besides membership dues the main fundraiser consisted of a small snack bar (trailer) at the football and basketball games. (Hot dogs were cooked at home and transported in warmers by Sue Alves to the games.) The Boosters also hosted a kickboxing tournament. Middle Weight Champion boxer Bobo Olson was the celebrity guest.
Some of the founding members were the Kent & Marissa Mitchell, the Frank & Carol Teuschler, the Edgar Deas’, the Al Vellutinis’, the Emil Passalaquas’ the Ben Collins’and John Syfert. Without the commitment of these members the Club would not be what it is today.
In 82-83, Norm Buchignani was President and his wife Patsy was Secretary, with Diane McDowell as Treasurer. Tony Heitz refurbished the aging snack bar trailer. Still active members who joined in the 80's included Martha Brooks and Richard Bugarske.
In the 80's, the Greyhound Booster Club and the Healdsburg Bulldogs joined forces and constructed the present snack shack at Rec Park spearheaded by Bob Randolph, Tom Johnson and Bill Domenichelli.
In ’96-’97, Shirley Buchignani was President. Jo Peterson was President from 1997-1999. Richard Bugarske was President from 1999-2001 Cindy Bond and Debbie Georgeson were co-Presidents from 2001-2003.
In 2003, the Booster Club recognized 12 members with honorary lifetime memberships. The members honored were Martha Brooks, Norm Buchignani, John & Dorothy Fineren, Sue Hanan, Diane McDowell, Marissa Mitchell, Tom & Jo Peterson, Kay Steinbach, and Carol & Frank Teuschler.
Jo Peterson, along with her husband, Tom, remained very active through 2012, running the snack booth at all the HHS basketball games.
In the spring of 2004, because of lack active members, the Greyhound Booster Club was going to disband. Wayne Rogers and Dean Studer were coaching the Bulldog football team that would be J.V. football players in the fall. They recruited the Bulldog parents to become the new Board of Directors. They included Co-Presidents Wayne & Pauline Rogers, Co-Vice Presidents Kim Collins and Lori Fore, Secretary Linda Cameron and Treasurer Dorothy Studer. Wayne and Pauline, Linda, Kim and Dorothy remain active from this group.
Up to this point in time, the funds for the sports program were given to the sports teams on a request type basis. If the head coach requested money for their team, it would be discussed and granted or denied by the Boosters. This led to an inequity, at times, of money distribution and some very difficult decisions for the Boosters. This Boosters group decided to change the way the money got distributed. The funds earned throughout the year, would be divided evenly per each student athlete per sport. That is how the Boosters distribute the money to High School sports today. In recent years the the Boosters have been able to give over $50,000 each year HHS sports. The money is raised by annual membership dues, an annual Golf Tournament (Started by John Torres) and proceeds from the football and basketball game snack bars.
In 2006, Kim Thompson became President; Norm Buchignani, Vice President; Chris Giammona, Secretary; Wayne Rogers & Dorothy Studer, Co-Treasurers. Jim Brush served as Treasurer during the 2005-06 fiscal year. New Board members include Mike Coughtry, Patty Lozinto and Nancy Carlson.
In 2009 the Boosters sponsored a trip to a Giant’s game that included two buses. In 20010, the Boosters received a City grant to rehab the Announcer’s booth at Rec. Park. The Boosters teamed up with the the Healdsburg Kiwanis Club, the Steve Hockert Foundation and many community volunteers to upgrade the football bleachers as well as the Announcer’s booth.
In 2011-12 the Boosters were lead by President, Melanie Gentry, Vice President, Martha Brooks, Secretary, Christie Sweeney, Treasurer, Jim Brush Directors, Wayne Rogers, Joyce Jensch, Rachelle Kozel, Mike Coughtry, Linda Cameron, and Kim Thompson, Membership, Richard Bugarske and Athletic Director, Jenean Bingham

Just like 1975 when the Boosters were incorporated, today’s Boosters rely on parent and community involvement to ensure the sports program at Healdsburg High School continues its proud and storied tradition.
